The Tani Goodman Fund was born from the deepest pain imaginable – the loss of our beloved Tani. His spirit of volunteerism, passion for sports, and dedication to community continue to guide our mission, and never more powerfully than during these challenging times since October 7th.
In the immediate aftermath of the war, we found a unique way to embody Tani’s values through running therapy groups. Starting in Jerusalem’s hotels, we reached out to shell-shocked evacuees, many who fled their homes with nothing but the clothes they wore. Through generous support from family and foundations, we provided running shoes and proper athletic wear, including modest gear for religious women from Sderot who joined our initiative.
What began as a simple effort to help traumatized evacuees find moments of peace through movement has blossomed into something profound. Each month, we organize commemorative 7.10K runs (marking October 7th) around kibbutzim and cities that were attacked, with participants wearing Tani Fund-subsidized shirts that unite us in purpose and memory. Running therapy offers a powerful path to healing – the rhythm of feet striking the ground, the meditative flow of breath, and most importantly, the strength found in moving forward together as a community. These elements mirror the core values of the Tani Fund: volunteering, sports, and community support.
Today, our running community continues to thrive in Sderot, and we’re actively working to expand these therapeutic running groups and commemorative runs to other affected communities. Each step taken together honors Tani’s memory and helps participants process their trauma through movement and connection.
This initiative beautifully demonstrates how the Tani Fund transforms grief into action, pain into purpose, and individual healing into community strength – just as Tani would have wanted.
Join us in making a difference. Your donation will help provide running gear, commemorative run shirts, and expand our therapeutic running groups to more communities in need. Together, we can help more trauma survivors find healing through movement, one step at a time.
Every step counts. Every donation helps.

“Running Because We Must Not Stop” is a heartfelt initiative founded by Lior Oknin, a resident of Sderot, driven by the desire to remember and commemorate the victims of the October 7th terror attack. The initiative invites the general public to join monthly runs in the attacked communities, aiming to restore life to the Gaza envelope, run along the paths where the tragedies occurred, and reconnect with the community and the land. Survivors of the massacre and residents of the area participate in these runs, creating a powerful and unifying experience.
The Tani Foundation supports the initiative by donating unique running shirts, which have become a favorite among the running community, symbolizing remembrance, renewal, and hope.
